George Steinert
George and the band go way back – living in St Catherine’s since the seventies, George knew Neil since he was in his late teens, and was around in 1974 when Neil joined the band.
George trained as a carpenter and started working in several theatres in the St Catherine’s area, working on props, making repairs and so on. In 1984, as the band were preparing for the ‘Power Windows’ tour, he got a call from Liam Birt who was living in St Catherine’s at the time. “They started doing a lot of prop work,” says George, whose first task for Rush was building a set of four ramps that were part of the live set. His calm demeanor quickly made George a welcome member of the crew, and he found his role did not stop with the carpentry – during shows, he would support Jim Johnson on stage right.
