Glen Wexler

Los Angeles resident Glen first set up his own photographic studio in 1978. He met Hugh Syme in 1986, through a mutual acquaintance. “A close friend of mine, Chuck Wright, at the time was the bass player in Quiet Riot,” explains Glen, “Hugh had recently completed painting album covers for Quite Riot and Whitesnake.” Both had good experience of album covers, which led to Hugh using Glen for the cover of ‘Hold Your Fire’. “At the time, both Hugh and I had a lot of album cover work behind us,” says Glen. “We shared similar conceptual sensibilities and an interest in pushing the boundaries of photographic images.” Agrees Hugh, “Glen was a patient and always gracious host when we chose to work in his studio – and he shared my determination to pursue excellence.”

Having developed his own reputation on the LA circuit, Glen was a source of many contacts. “I had established an elaborate network of resources for creating my work,” he says – not least Patrick Johnson, Scott Alexander and Olivia Ramirez. Together, and involving other collaborators they worked on covers for other bands, including Slaughter (‘Stick It To Ya’) and Michael Schenker (‘Perfect Timing’). “There were several photography-based album packages, recording industry ads, and a fashion account,” says Glen. An early advocate of digitally altered photography, today Glen continues to work from his busy studio in Los Angeles. His web site is www.glenwexlerstudio.com
