Ian Grandy
Ian helped the band with its kit since 1969, when he was Rush’s first roadie – this is not to say the boys didn’t do their own share of lifting and driving, but they were grateful for the help! He was joined by Liam Birt in 1971. By the ‘Caress of Steel’ tour, Ian was well ensconced in his role as drum technician and sound engineer, and by ‘2112’ he was co-ordinating the crew and running the tour accounts.
During the ‘Exit Stage Left’ tour, Ian was Security Chief. It was around this time that he and the band parted ways.
