Jim Johnson
J.D. “Jimmy” Johnson was one of the original road crew for the ‘Rush’ and ‘Fly By Night’ tours, along with Ian Grandy and Liam Birt. He replaced David Scace as guitar technician, and was himself replaced by Skip Gildersleeve on the ‘Caress of Steel’ tour. He returned for ‘Grace Under Pressure’ as stage right technician, taking over from Liam Birt who was moving into stage management duties. Essentially, Jimmy was looking after Alex’s guitars once again, aided and abetted by George Steinert. He continued this role through to ‘Counterparts’. Following this, he went to work for Styx, and was succeeded on the ‘Vapor Trails’ tour by Rick Britton.
