Michael Kamen
New Yorker Michael Kamen was a highly accomplished musician, first turning his hand to the piano at the age of 2 and later picking up the guitar, clarinet and oboe. He helped found the New York Rock ‘n’ Roll Ensemble in the late sixties, and soon after he began to arrange music for ballet, all the while keeping his hand in on the popular music scene, becoming a highly respected composer and arranger. With his work on ‘The Wall’ he began a long series of collaborations with Pink Floyd and Roger Waters, becoming one of the few people to work with both David Gilmour and Roger Waters following Roger’s departure from the band. As well as working on the film score for ‘The Wall’, he also scored the music for films as wide ranging as ‘Brazil’, ‘Lethal Weapon’ and ‘Die Hard’.
Following a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 1996, Michael died suddenly in November 2003, aged 55.
