Scott K Fish

“My interest in drums started very early – about age 5 – and continues to this day,” explains Scott K Fish, former managing editor of Modern Drummer magazine. Scott was a professional drummer and drum teacher for about seven years while living in Iowa, New York, and Connecticut – before and after his association with Modern Drummer.

Scott first started freelance writing for Modern Drummer in 1976. In 1980 he was hired as managing editor, co-ordinating MD’s freelance writers and photographers. At Modern Drummer Scott started working with columnist Neil Peart. “I don’t remember the exact moment Neil and Modern Drummer developed a column-writing arrangement,” says Scott, “but I know Neil loved writing and he was a very good writer.” Scott left Modern Drummer in October 1983 to become Northeast District sales manager for the Gretsch company. Between 1976 and 1980, Scott had written almost 50 percent of Modern Drummer’s feature pieces.

Today, Scott remains active in studying music history and also in Maine politics. Scott owns and edits Maine’s premier political website – As Maine Goes – online since 1998.
