Gerry Griffin

Gerald D. Griffin started working for NASA in 1960 and retired in 1986. His full career included flight director for the Apollo space programme, including responsibility for the flight controllers who were co-ordinating the safe return of the astronauts of Apollo 13.

Gerry served as deputy director of the John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and later Director of the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston. When at Florida, he invited the band to the launch of the Space Shuttle, prior to ‘Signals’ – with Lee Scherer. He has acted as technical advisor for the films ‘Apollo 13’, ‘Contact’ and ‘Deep Impact’. Today, Gerry lives in Hunt, Texas and works as a management consultant.
