Pye Dubois
Pye was a “member” of Canadian band Max Webster, though he never played or sang a note. Rather, his role was inspirational and lyrical input. His first collaboration with Rush was to provide the words to ‘Tom Sawyer’, ostensibly as a thank-you for the band’s participation on Max Webster’s ‘Battlescar’. Following Kim’s departure from the band, Pye wrote the lyrics for Kim’s first four solo albums. Pye later wrote ‘Between Sun and Moon’ and contributed to the songs ‘Force 10’ and
‘Test For Echo’. Neil valued his sometimes unorthodox ideas, which counterbalanced Neil’s own sense of structure. “I always like working with him because it takes the boat to a place that we wouldn’t get on at home,” said Neil. “A lot of imagery comes from him and I try to impose order on it. My sense of structure, I guess, around his kind of street poetry.” The elusive Pye Dubois is also a registered psychologist. He is “listed as missing in action.” To support the collaborations, he co-owns Pysart Music Publishing with Neil.
